Series 1 of record group 70-129 consists of records of the Boat and Water Safety Section, Law Enforcement Division, Michigan Dept. of Conservation (1965). Consists of memoranda dealing mainly with boating laws and regulations, vehicle or boat purchases, and committee meetings; correspondence regarding recreational boating problems on Michigan lakes, rules governing the use of such watercraft, and safety programs; inquiries answered from the Governor's Office concerning boating matters; correspondence with the U.S. Coast Guard; memoranda and reports relating to the role of boating in the outdoor recreation resources planning study; correspondence to the Sheriff's Marine School at Higgins Lake; correspondence about boating law enforcement; a table of boat-related accident statistics for 1965; a copy of the North Central States Boating Law as prepared by the Administrators' Association; correspondence from the Section's director to Michigan legislators in regards to boating and safety bills; amendments to the state boating laws proposed by the director to the legislators; and legal correspondence with the Attorney General's Office about interpretations of maritime law.
